Hermitage/Refuge of San Donato (Beriain - Navarra)
Location:
It is located on the summit of mount Beriáin which is accessed from Uharte Arakil and is the highest hermitage of Navarra (1.494m).
Description and History:
There are documents dated from 1642 where is talk of a
hermitage dedicated to
San Donato and San Cayetano.
Because of its location, very exposed to the weather, the
Hermitage has undergone numerous impairments and restorations.
It was rebuilt on several occasions between the XVIII y XIX centuries.
In 1958 the present building was constructed in accordance with design
architect Ramón Urmeneta.
For half a century serves as a mountain retreat. In 1996, the
Mountain section Anaitasuna took the initiative to fix it:
They mobilized neighbors and mountaineers, funds were raised by
different
resources and a grant from the Government of Navarra was achieved.
