"Bujaco" tower & "de la Estrella" arc (Cáceres)
Location:
Belongs to the monuments of Cáceres
(World Heritage city by UNESCO since 1986) and is located on the main
square of the town.
Description and History:
Is built on Roman stones with a height of 25 meters, its plan
is almost square and that the same measures are 10.83 x 10.25 m.
It was built during the Almohad period in the century XII. Legend has
it that the Almohad leader 'Abu Yacub Yusub', whose name derives
'Bujaco', besieged for six months to 'Fratres de Cáceres', last
residents defending the tower back in 1173.
This order was the germ of the 'Order of Santiago', founded later.
Between 1672 and 1791 housed a clock, and for this reason was also
known as the 'Clock Tower'.
