Description and History:
The New 'Bisagra' door has been and are the main entrance to
the Toledo City. This function dated to the tenth century remains are
preserved during the Muslim domination.
With the expansion of the city in the sixteenth century, and the
construction of Hospital Tavera was necessary to improve access,
replacing the old door on the other whose construction began to 1550,
following the traces given by Alonso de Covarrubias. I
The works should finish around 1576. This space was used during many
years to control the entry and exit of people and animals, for the
collection of taxes and food articles for festive, ceremonial and
military activities. up 1934 the works were not initiated to open two
side entrances on the wall and thus prevent the continuous flow of road
traffic by door of the XVI century.
